Teacher Experience
My experience as a teacher spanned seven years beginning in the Fall of 2005. Those seven years werespent at Jesse Holman Jones High School (http://hs.houstonisd.org/joneshs/) in the heart of South Park, Houston, Texas. In that time I served as the Girl's Varsity Soccer Coach, Senior Class Sponsor, Homecoming Committee Chair, Coronation Committee Co-Chair, National Honor Society Co-Sponsor and SDMC Committee Member. In order to better understand my commitment to Jones HS and the students and community it serves, view my experiences in the pictures below.
Administrative Experience
My administrative experience includes serving as Science Department Chair for five years and leading Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC) meetings as needed. As department chair, I felt that it was important to involve the entire team in making decisions, so that there was a sense of ownership with the programs we implemented and instructional paths that we took. When people feel empowered and that they are a part of the process, then most times they rise to the occasion to make sure that the team is successful. The same is true when it comes to problem solving. Anytime a problem arises, it is important to evaluate the problem along with the desired outcome. After this evaluation, then paths to achieve the desired outcome can be researched and applied. Teams are important because different people have expertise in different areas. This allows a differentiated approach to problems and/or situations allowing the desired outcome to be achieved.
I have incorporated much of what I learned as a teacher leader into my current role as an Assistant Principal. This is my second year serving in this capacity. It is important to utilize the strengths of the team to achieve any goals set forth by the team. I have realized that administrators are truly instructional coaches and leaders. We ensure that we are able to provide support and resources to our teachers and students, so that we are all successful in our stated goals.
My specialized expertise is in Physical Science 8 -12. I hold certification in Physical Science 8-12 and Principal EC-12. I am also proficient in all Microsoft Office programs, Chancery SMS, GradeSpeed, and data warehouses such as EVAAS and Campus Online.
